Undergraduate Students (Portland Campus):
Student Health Insurance Requirement:
All traditional (non-cohort) undergraduate students registered for at least 6 credit hours and all international students are required to carry health insurance. Multnomah offers a student health insurance plan to help students meet this requirement. Students that have other coverage or prefer to enroll in another comparable plan may opt out of enrollment in the MU health insurance plan. If you meet the requirement stated above, upon registration at Multnomah, you will be automatically enrolled in the student health insurance plan through Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Oregon, and the premium for coverage will be added to your student account.
For students who have enrolled in the program in the past, enrollment must be renewed each year to continue coverage. Students who do not meet the above requirement and choose to purchase the student health insurance plan, will need to enroll manually each year thorugh the Student Life department.
Waiver Process for Traditional Undergrads and International Students:
If you are able to demonstrate that you have comparable or better coverage, you may waive the requirement by completing the Health Insurance Waiver Request Form. You will not be able to waive the health insurance until you are registered for classes at Multnomah. The deadline to waive coverage and not be charged is September 18, 2015. After September 18th, you will be enrolled in the program if you have not successfully waived the requirement, and the premium for coverage will be applied to your MU bill. For specific questions, please contact the Student Life department at 503.251.5311.
Returning Students (Portland Campus):
Multnomah negotiates the rates for insurance each year. There is a modest increase in cost as well as the addition of some increase in benefits. Health insurance for the 2015-16 academic year will continue through Regence BlueCross BlueShield. Please consult the Regence website for complete information on benefits and enrollment. (Note: A waiver must be completed at the beginning of each academic year for returning students.)
Graduate, Seminary and DCP Students:
Graduate, seminary or DCP students who would like to enroll in Multnomah’s student health insurance plan must enroll manually through Student Life. Contact Student Life at firstname.lastname@example.org for information on rates and enrollment.
Spouses and Dependents:
Coverage for spouses and dependents is now available through the Regence BlueCross BlueShield plan. This coverage is purchased separately and is offered at a different rate than the student health insurance plan. If you would like more information on rates and enrollment, please contact Student Life at email@example.com. Coverage for spouses and dependents will be purchased directly through Regence.
Reno-Tahoe students are not currently eligible for coverage through Multnomah’s student health insurance plan.
